Academy Spain experience
A unique experience in a vibrant culture with incredible colleagues, working for a great animal welfare cause. The only training course in Europe.
There is much more to Spay Academy Spain than doing some neutering. Here’s what to expect from your experience.
The course takes place in Medina del Campo, Spain. From Madrid you can reach Medina by train (there is a high speed train that takes 1 hour and the normal train takes 3 hours). Bus takes longer but is also available. You can also rent a car very cheaply and drive to Medina, which is a 2-hour drive from Madrid airport. The drive is mostly motorway with some tolls. Carpool with other delegates and the cost comes down even more!
In Medina we will transport you between your accommodation place and the refuge on a daily basis. We can also pick you up and drop you off from the train station.
We have an arrangement with a local hotel that provides discounts to our delegates. This is Hotel Reina Isabel. We do the bookings on behalf of our delegates at no extra charge to provide you the discount. You do not pay your hotel stay until you check out at the end of the course. We will provide you updated information about the costs of accommodation.
However, if you prefer to stay elsewhere, you are welcome to do so.
We will provide you with lunch at the refuge and this is already included in your course fees.
When it comes to dinner, we usually get together with the tutors and the delegates to go out to one of the many restaurants in Medina del Campo, taste some delicious Spanish food and spend some time knowing each other. Dinner is not included in the course fees as it’s optional. If you do not wish to join us, you may also have dinner at the refuge.
In a nutshell
Days of training
hours of surgery and anaesthesia
40 hours of CPD and great EMS experience. You will be performing both surgery and anaesthesia and there will be no more than 10 participants in each course.
The Spay Academy Spain programme for vets is designed to provide delegates with the opportunity to perform multiple neutering procedures from start to finish.
By the end of the week-long course, all participants will have worked on a minimum of 8 bitch spays (plus other surgeries) under expert tuition. Delegates are expected to leave the course feeling completely confident in performing these procedures in their daily jobs.
We understand that you may have questions about the courses in the current world pandemic situation. We are paying close attention to the evolution of COVID-19 in Spain and we will be following WHO recommendations and advising on how to protect yourself during the course. However, if we do not feel that it is safe to run the course, you will be informed about this and the course will be postponed. More information about these current conditions can be found on this page and we will clarify it further in our Q&A sessions.
Please arrange a Q&A session if you want to know more about the course and be sure that it’s the right experience for you. We will strive to answer all your questions to support your most informed decision.
